May 12th: InFARMation (and Beer!) looks at Local Meat

InFARMation (and Beer!) is held every month on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Roots Organic Brewery’s Event Space (next door, just south of the brew pub) on SE 7th Ave. The event starts at 5:30 with networking and beer drinking. The speakers start at 6:30; presentations and Q&A last until 8pm, with additional networking and discussion afterwards. Admission is always free, and beers are always $2.50! Please note that there has been a change in food service at Roots – to order from the Roots’ menu you must sit next door at the brewpub. There will be a special InFARMation menu with chips/salsa and several tasty wraps that you can purchase from the bartender at the event space.

On May 12th, InFARMation (and Beer!) will be tackling the big issue of Local Meat – what the barriers are for Oregon farmers trying to get grass-fed, pasture raised, and humanely treated meat to the consumer, and what options Oregonians have for opting out of the factory farm food system and buying directly from their local farmers. Val Blaha from Mossback Farms and Chrissie and Koorosh Zaerpoor from Kookoolan Farms will be telling their personal stories of raising meat in Oregon and how they’ve structured their farm businesses to bring local meat to consumers. Local meat producers are invited to attend or send information to michele@friendsoffamilyfarmers.org.

Next month on June 9th, Idaho grass-fed beef producer and ranching consultant Steve Campbell is coming to Portland to speak about how he made the connection between clean soil and clean food, and the difference that has made on his farm and in his food.
