Put a draft horse in the White House! We want Lynn Miller.

Yes, yes. We know that the 2008 election is over. But there is one important candidate up for consideration, who we would like to see end up at that beautiful estate located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. As huge fans of of the Small Farmers Journal, published in our very own Sisters, Oregon we have come to know and love the writings and work of Lynn Miller. That’s why we are ecstatic to learn that Lynn Miller is one of the names that has ended up in the hat as a candidate to transition the lawn of the White House into food production.

We are glad that the folks over at www.whitehousefarmer.org are encouraging the new President to put in a “First Garden” to demonstrate how to transform your lawn into a garden and grown your own food. We are fully supportive of this idea and think that Lynn Miller would be a fine candidate for the job. And, if Lynn Miller goes to the White House, the Obama girls will not only have a new Labradoodle, they would be lucky to experience the joys of owning draft horses. Lynn Miller is not only a farmer, but he is an accomplished horseman and teamster having traveled the country to teach others how to farm with horses.

This idea is not new. After World War II, the United States Government encouraged citizens to grow their own food to ensure independence and to conserve energy. Read more about the history of this movement here.
