March 18th, 2013 is Family Farmer & Rancher Day at the State Capitol in Salem!
Mark your calendars for Monday, March 18th and RSVP today to come to the State Capitol in Salem to educate your legislators about the importance of local agriculture and the need for policies that support our farmers and ranchers in creating and sustaining the kind of food system we would like to see in Oregon.
Join Friends of Family Farmers and our partner organizations for this fun day at the State Capitol and bring your voice to the small farm and local food issues that are important to all Oregonians – urban and rural, producers and eaters alike. Let’s demonstrate the strength, vibrancy and contributions of our farm and food community to Oregon’s economy!
Schedule for the day:
8:30-9:30 Registration at Montag Den- Willamette University- Across the street from the Capitol
9:30-11:30- Workshops on the issues and how to lobby your legislator
12:30-1:30 Rally on the Capitol front steps!!
8:00-4:00 Farmers market inside Capitol Galleria
Meetings with legislators will occur throughout the day depending on available appointment times.
Many details are being worked out but in the meantime here are some things you can do to help us organize an effective and powerful experience for everyone involved.

- Volunteer for our March 18th Action Team and to help with tasks leading up to the day– many hands make light work, and there is a lot of it!
- Need a ride? Can offer a ride? Want to catch a ride on a group bus? Use this link to get the ball rolling.
- SPREAD THE WORD
We are also looking for folks who can help with providing product to create a beautiful display of our Oregon bounty. We will be setting up tables/booths like a farmers market, and putting out everything from produce to eggs to meat to starts to seeds. If you can provide food that can be sampled (nuts, greens, fruit, honey, jam, cheese, etc.) or even just items to display, please get in touch ASAP with this link or calling the office: 503.759.FARM (3276) or by emailing email@example.com.
Have an extra room? If you live in the Salem-Corvallis-Portland area and you have some extra room, please consider putting a fellow Rallier up for the night. We will have folks coming from throughout the state and some may need a place to stay either the night before or after a long day at the Capitol.
