Farm Bill Teach in with Dan Imhoff & Earl Blumenauer May 22

Food Fight 2012: Why the Farm Bill Matters to All of Us

May 22, 2012 6:00 pm at the Ecotrust Building – 721 NW 9th Ave, Portland, OR

Join author Daniel Imhoff and Congressman Earl Blumenauer for a conversation about the Farm Bill, why it matters to you, and what you can do about it.

The Farm Bill is one of the least understood and most important pieces of legislation in the United States. It allocates funding for Food Stamps, conservation practices, and farm subsidies. The 2008 Farm Bill is set to expire September 30 of this year, so Congress will spend the next few months debating obscure policies and ultimately determining what we will eat for the next five years. Anyone who eats or pays taxes needs to learn what’s at stake.

Daniel Imhoff is the author of many books on food, farming, and the environment. His latest book, Food Fight: The Citizen’s Guide to the Next Food and Farm Bill, is a comprehensive and comprehensible guide to food and farm policy for the average citizen.

Congressman Earl Blumenauer represents Oregon’s third district in the U.S. House of Representatives. His report Growing Opportunities: Family Farm Values for Reforming the Farm Bill outlines reforms that would make the Farm Bill better for everyone from the taxpayer to the farmer.

Space is limited and seating is on a first-come-first-served basis.

This event is sponsored by Ecotrust, Friends of Family Farmers, Salmon-Safe, and Watershed Media
